Background

Nicholas Marlow, Vice President of the HITH Society Australasia was invited to facilitate a seminar in Auckland, New Zealand in June 2010.  This seminar raised great interest amongst many of the New Zealand HITH services and clinicians, administrators and interested industry partners were engaged in conversation which resulted in a number of outcomes to take a national approach to HITH in New Zealand forward.  They are

  1. Request by the participants have its own HITH Society Interest Group
  2. New Zealand's own HITH section within the HITH Society website
  3. That leadership to progress HITH in New Zealand was needed and representation on the HITH Society Australasia Executive was supported

Permission was requested by Nicholas Marlow on behalf of the New Zealanders to the HITH Society Australasia Executive.  This request was agreed by the HITH Executive for the interest group to be set up and now in 2011 this interest group needs to be developed by New Zealanders fro New Zealand HITH.

This website and interest group will disseminate information e.g. government reports, clinical guidelines, meetings and seminar information to share.  The participants in New Zealand saw it as a great opportunity to use HITH Society resources to progress the model of care in New Zealand.  This will assist the Local Health Districts and local services promote HITH to the New Zealand Government.
