Rethinking IV Access in HITH: Continuous Antibiotics via Peripheral Cannula

This session explores how continuous intravenous antibiotics can be safely delivered at home using peripheral intravenous cannulas. Drawing on real-world experience across multiple Australian HITH services, we will look at how this approach can simplify care, improve patient experience, and potentially reduce reliance on central access.

We will also discuss practical considerations, including complication rates, patient acceptability, and whether routine cannula replacement is necessary, or if a clinically indicated approach is sufficient.
