The State of the Union: Hospital in the Home in the USA
A/Prof Michael Montalto delivered a comprehensive update on the evolution of HITH in the United States. Drawing on his recent fellowship at Ariadne Labs and extensive international collaborations, he outlined the growth of home hospital programs, key policy and funding levers, and the diversity of models now being implemented across major health systems. His presentation considered quality, safety, workforce implications, and the sustainability of current arrangements beyond emergency pandemic authorisations.
A/Prof Montalto brought a unique perspective informed by more than three decades of leadership in HITH, including clinical practice, research, service design, and national and international policy engagement.
