HITH Grand Rounds providing Hospital in the Home education for healthcare professionals

Education and shared learning are essential as Hospital in the Home (HITH) continues to expand and deliver increasingly complex hospital-level care in patients' homes.

The Hospital in the Home Society Australasia Grand Rounds provide a regular, free educational forum dedicated to HITH and Hospital at Home clinical practice, research, service development and innovation.

Held online throughout the year, HITH Grand Rounds bring together clinicians and services to share their experience, discuss new approaches to care and learn from each other.

Importantly, live HITH Grand Rounds are free and open access. You do not need to be a HITH Society member to attend.

Practical education designed for HITH clinicians

Hospital in the Home requires a broad range of clinical skills and knowledge.

HITH clinicians manage acute medical and surgical conditions while working across traditional hospital boundaries. This requires expertise not only in clinical care, but also in patient selection, clinical governance, deterioration and escalation, antimicrobial therapy, virtual care, remote monitoring, multidisciplinary care and delivering hospital-level treatment safely in the home.

HITH Grand Rounds provide education specifically focused on these challenges.

Sessions are led by clinicians, researchers and healthcare professionals with direct experience in HITH and Hospital at Home. Presentations combine evidence, research and practical experience, allowing attendees to hear how different services approach common challenges in delivering care at home.

Learn from a broad range of HITH topics

The Grand Round program reflects the diversity of modern Hospital in the Home practice.

Previous sessions have explored topics including complex infections, antimicrobial stewardship, continuous intravenous antibiotics, mental health HITH, hyperemesis gravidarum, emergency models of care, patient complexity, national HITH benchmarking and new approaches to delivering acute care at home.

New topics and speakers are added throughout the year, creating an ongoing Hospital in the Home education program for clinicians working in or interested in HITH.

Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals, managers, researchers, trainees and other healthcare professionals involved in home-based hospital care are all welcome to attend.

Free and open-access HITH Grand Rounds

One of the key principles of the program is making high-quality Hospital in the Home education accessible.

There is no cost to attend a live Grand Round and registration is open to both HITH Society members and non-members.

This allows clinicians from different services, disciplines and locations to participate, ask questions and share their own experiences.

Build your HITH knowledge with our Grand Round recordings

While live Grand Rounds are open access, HITH Society members also receive access to recordings of previous sessions through the HITH Society Knowledge Hub.

The growing collection provides an educational library covering HITH clinical practice, research, service design, quality improvement and innovation.

For clinicians unable to attend live because of clinical commitments, rosters or time differences, membership provides the opportunity to watch previous sessions at a time that suits them.

It is also a useful resource for HITH education and training, allowing services and clinicians to revisit presentations relevant to their own practice.

Supporting education across the HITH community

The HITH Society is committed to supporting education, research and professional development in Hospital in the Home.

Grand Rounds are an important part of that commitment, providing regular opportunities to learn from colleagues, explore new evidence and share practical experience from HITH services.

Whether you are an experienced HITH clinician, new to Hospital in the Home, a trainee undertaking a HITH rotation, or simply interested in learning more about hospital-level care at home, we encourage you to join an upcoming session.

Register for the next HITH Grand Round and continue learning with the HITH community.
